Answer: F1. March 7 was the beginning of an extreme nine days in Iowa due to the weather. First, an ice storm produced 0.5″ to 2″ of ice across portions of Iowa. Many locations were without powers for days including 2/3 of the Des Moines area. The next day, March 8, two tornadoes touched down around Coralville and Tipton. Luckily, no one was injured or killed with these storms. On March 13, 14 tornadoes were reported in Iowa. One tornado was an F4 and another an F2 that injured 15 people around the Ankeny area. Two days later, up to 12″ of snow fell in western Iowa with Iowa City reporting a wind gust of 73 mph! Those nine days really put truth to the saying “If you don’t like the weather, just wait a few minutes.”
